A Kane man is facing allegations that he bought methamphetamine on the dark web to sell.

Michael C. Anderson, 42, of 5613 Route 6, Kane, was indicted by a federal grand jury in Erie on a charge of violating federal drug law, U.S. Attorney Scott Brady announced Wednesday.

The indictment alleges that on Aug. 26, Anderson tried to possess more than 50 grams of meth in order to sell it. He allegedly purchased “methamphetamine on the Dark Web for the purpose of selling and redistributing those drugs in the Western District of Pennsylvania.”

According to Brady, the law allows for a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison, a fine of $5,000,000 or both for the charge. However, any sentence imposed would be based on Anderson’s criminal history and the seriousness of his alleged actions.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Paul Sellers is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government.

The following agencies assisted in the investigation: the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the McKean County detectives, and the McKean County Drug Task Force.

Court records indicate that Anderson was released on $20,000 unsecured bond, and he is scheduled for video arraignment on the allegations at 10 a.m. Oct. 5.
