Sextortion scammers have started utilizing new tactics to bypass spam filters and secure email gateways so that their spoofed emails are delivered to intended recipients.

To bypass filters, the sextortion emails are sent in foreign languages and splitting bitcoin addresses into two parts. As reported by BleepingComputer, the scammers are sending these emails to English speaking users but with the content written in the Russian language.

Apart from using a foreign language, the emails include the bitcoin addresses broken into two parts. These email also includes instructions on how to combine the two parts to create the actual bitcoin address where an extortion payment should be sent.

Adding such tactics make it difficult for the recipients to understand what they are receiving.

What is the basic purpose of sextortion scam?

Sextortion scams are emails that pretend to be from an attacker who claims to have installed spyware on the recipient’s computer. They scare the victim of recording their inappropriate videos using their webcam. They threaten to share the videos to all of their contacts unless a ransom is paid.
